While ensuring the quality of our products, we focus on offering one-stop services and solutions designed to enhance our customers’ operational efficiency.

With a deep understanding of silicon steel, DLS CRGO is committed to sharing the evolution of silicon steel, helping you understand more about this essential material and our offerings.

1. The Early Days: Introduction and Digestive Period (1974-1986)

In 1974, with government approval, Wuhan Iron and Steel Group introduced the world’s advanced patented technology for cold-rolled electrical steel from Nippon Steel in Japan. The annual production design capacity of this project reached 70,000 tons, including 42,000 tons of non-oriented steel and 28,000 tons of oriented steel (including HIB steel). Construction began on September 5, 1974, and trial operation started in late 1978. The project quickly generated economic benefits and contributed to replacing imported oriented silicon steel products in China.

2. Advancing Through Innovation: Introduction and Absorption Period (1987-1997)

During this period, China focused on mastering imported technologies and innovating to meet domestic demand for high-performance electrical steel. Key milestones include:

  1. Stable production of high magnetic induction (HiB) steel.
  2. Development of domestic magnesium oxide coatings, rolling mills, and annealing furnaces.
  3. Establishment of the world’s first double-layer continuous annealing furnace for silicon steel.
  4. The construction of 23 production lines, laying the foundation for a strong domestic silicon steel industry.

3. Rapid Growth: Global Leadership Period (1998-2024)

Since 1998, China’s CRGO steel production has seen significant advancements, making it a global leader in output and technology.

By 2024, China produced 1.385 million tons of CRGO steel, with HiB steel accounting for 70% of the total. The production of thin silicon steel (≤ 0.20 mm) has surged, meeting the global demand for high-efficiency transformers. With 27 production facilities nationwide, China’s CRGO steel industry continues to grow, achieving an annual growth rate of 5%.

Key Market Insights:

  • Regional Demand: The Asia-Pacific region leads global demand, followed by North America.
  • Trade Leaders: The U.S., U.K., and Germany are major importers, while China, South Korea, and Mexico are key exporters.
  • Future Trends: Energy-efficient solutions, digitization, and environmental sustainability are driving innovation. CRGO steel grades above 0.85 mm are in high demand for next-generation transformers.

India CRGO Anti-Dumping Probe 2026

On June 22, 2026, India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) officially launched a new anti-dumping investigation (Case No. AD(OI) 15/2026, Case ID: AD/OI/016/2026) targeting imports of Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Electrical Steel (CRGO) and Amorphous Metal (AM). The targeted origin countries include China PR, Japan, South Korea, and Russia, while the European Union has

Why Ultra-Low Burr Control Matters in CRGO Cores

In transformer core production, many buyers focus first on CRGO grade, core loss value, magnetic induction, and coating type. These are all important. However, one small detail is often overlooked during slitting and cutting: burr level. For transformer laminations, burrs may look minor, but they can affect stacking quality, interlaminar insulation, core loss, and long-term

AI Ends at Power—Transformers and Silicon Steel Matter

A sheet of silicon steel, thinner than two A4 papers, is quietly holding back global AI giants. While engineers in Silicon Valley are still struggling to push the parameter limits of next-generation large models, an unexpected bottleneck has already emerged—not chips, not algorithms, but electricity. More precisely, it is the “heart” that delivers electricity safely

Global Transformer Shortage to Last Until 2029

The world is entering a prolonged phase where power transformer supply simply can’t keep up with demand. This isn’t a short-term demand spike. Instead, it’s a full-blown capacity, delivery, and labor crunch. Grid upgrades, generation growth, and surging data center loads are all falling behind schedule because of it.
